THE FIRST 24 – A BRIEF REFLECTION

AND SO THE ADVENTURE HAS BEGUN…

Well, here we are in Bogotá, Colombia and it has been an adventure in and of itself just getting here. After almost a full day in various airports, sleeping in uncomfortable positions on long flights, and just being plain, old overwhelmed, we are just glad to finally have arrived. There was so much planning, packing, and just general disarray.

Our goal now is to just sit back and enjoy Colombia, explore the cities, eat fun and different foods, visit some museums and art galleries. Basically, the same thing we would do on any other vacation but this time we are doing things on our own schedule. We are going to take our time, enjoy our surroundings, enjoy each other, and start to really grow into the people we were meant to be. This is going to be the adventure of a lifetime and we really plan on making the most of it.

From a personal stand point (this is Sally typing) everything has been so different and exciting so far, from going through immigration and customs to the fantastic and informative cab ride to our hostel. The city is HUGE!!!! There are the majestic and green mountains to our east that are constantly looming in the distance. The skies are bright and clear in the morning with a light rain in the afternoon. The skies clear again in the evening but it stays pretty chilly. I am blown away by the diversity in the people, the architecture, and especially how modern everything is. This is definitely not the Bogotá the internet told me about. The people are kind and very patient with us. When we stumble and have trouble communicating, they are willing to help us and make our stay here as enjoyable as possible. Overall it has been less of a culture shock than I was expecting so I hope that it will allow me some time to acclimate before we move on to the smaller cities.
